IKEv2 (Internet Key Exchange version 2) is a protocol for setting up a Security Association between two systems. As the name implies, it is the replacement for IKE, which was part of early versions of IPsec. The combination of IKEv2 and IPsec is a natural one since IKEv2 is part of recent versions of the IPsec specification.
